Agencies Unite to Combat Gang Crime in the Treasure Valley

A Press Conference is being held by Idaho Governor Risch to kick off the start of a new project designed to combat gang crime in the Treasure Valley.  Agencies including; the Governor’s Office, The U.S. Attorney’s Office, Idaho Attorney Generals Office, Owyhee County, and the Treasure Valley Partnership have combined forces to hire a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney (SAUSA).

The SAUSA will be working out of the United States Attorney's Office and will be responsible for helping to federally prosecute gang offenses that occur in the Treasure Valley.  Gang members convicted in federal court will be sent into the federal prison system.

The United States Attorney's Office will be lending its prosecution authority to the project SAUSA and will provide an office and related overhead expenses, as well as contributing on behalf of the federal government the financial resources of federal trials and federal incarcerations. Thus, this is collaboration in mission as well as in financial contributions.

The Treasure Valley Partnership has committed to spend up to $75,000 for the first year to fund the SAUSA Project.  The State of Idaho through the Attorney General’s office has committed to spend up to $25,000 to fund the project.

During the press conference, there will be an official signing of all cooperative agreements between agencies involved with the implementation of the SAUSA Project.
